Playas

Formentera can boast paradisiacal beaches. Its: fine, white sand and the clearest waters you can imagine make it the perfect beach destination.

Thanks to its peculiar shape, the island has an extraordinarily long coastline made up of numerous beaches, coves and unusual coastal areas.

The most popular beaches are Ses Illetes, Cala Saona and Migjorn.

Hippy Market

One of the most visited craft markets is held on the highest point of the island, the Pinar de la Mola.

Local artisan products including ceramics, leatherwear, clothing, jewellery and paintings made by local artists are displayed here.

The night craft market in San Fernando and the market in the port of La Savina are also worth visiting. 

Lighthouses

On the southeast of the island the lighthouse of La Mola sits high on a cliff with breathtaking views onto the open sea. 

In the barren southwest of Formentera lies the Cap de Barbaria lighthouse which is only accessible on foot, by bike or motorbike. From here there are magnificent views of Playa de Migjorn to the east and of the sunset to the west.

Gastronomy

Formentera’s typical cuisine very much reflects its traditional way of life, strongly marked by its dependence on fishing and dry farming. Due to its isolated position, ingredients were limited to local products. Among its traditional recipes, the following are particularly worth mentioning: Ensalada pagès (potato salad with dried fish), Frit de Pulp (fried octopus), Sofrit pagès (meat and potato stew), Calamari a la bruta (fried squid in its ink) or Bullit de Peix (fish stew with potatoes). The most typical cakes and desserts are Flaó (cheesecake with mint), Les Orelletes (sweet aniseed pastries) and Greixonera (a cake similar to bread pudding).
